Macallan Meets Mexico - A New Whiskey Journey Inspired by Tradition and Taste

The Macallan is now moving into Mexico with its “Distil Your World” series. This initiative is a collaboration with the world-renowned restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, run by the Roca brothers in Girona, Spain. This marks the third edition of the Macallan series, with previous cities including London and New York.

At the heart of each edition is a journey that a Macallan whisky maker and one of the Roca brothers take to a chosen country, which serves as inspiration for the flavour nuances highlighted in that edition.

The Roca brothers, Joan, Josep and Jordi, are behind El Celler de Can Roca. This restaurant has earned three Michelin stars for its unique interpretation of Catalan cuisine. It has also been named "World's Best Restaurant" twice by Restaurant Magazine, in 2013 and 2015, and consistently ranks among the world's top eateries.

For this "Distil Your World Mexico" edition, whisky maker Diane Stuart has taken the lead. She has chosen a blend of European and American oak casks, a common choice, to celebrate the annual Mexican celebration of life.

The official tasting notes for this edition are as follows:

Aroma:
Sugary pan de muerto bread, creamy vanilla, sweet pineapple, fragrant marigold flowers and a touch of fresh green coriander.

Taste:
A rich sweetness characterized by orange oil, chocolatey Mexican mole and charred pineapple.

Aftertaste:
Sweet with a subtle hint of charred coals.

Alcohol percentage: 48%

This whisky aims to encapsulate the spirit and essence of the vibrant Mexican tradition, drawing inspiration from the Roca brothers and the expertise of the Macallan Whisky Mastery Team.
